The sea urchin was built as one off for the then Whitby diving club,
this was the first mini keel boat of its type to come out of jack
lowthers boat yard in Whitby 1964,
However its sea keeping qualities and large deck space soon became very
popular with single handed and part time fishermen of the north east,
Jack recalls he built around twenty or so, the sea urchin was the first
and sadly probably the last to survive,
The boat today is right up to date with all the latest electronics,
navigational and safety equipment you would expect on a modern charter
fishing vessel,
furuno radar, koden dual frequency colour sounder, laptop chart plotter,
the latest DSC vhf radio that’s connected to the GPS giving precise and
instant location detection(in the event of an emergency) with a single
press of a button,
The boat also carries quality rods and multiplying reels for the novice
or angler on holiday all of which are inclusive in the charter costs.
Please note on all
but the 3hr trips leads, hooks and bait must be supplied by the angler
and all are available locally on the day, however I can supply all the
end gear @ £10 extra per person per trip your choice.
Licensed with the local harbour office to carry five passengers and one
crew/skipper,
Within a twenty mile radius from Whitby and governed by the COP rules
and conforms with all safety requirements, i.e. life raft, lifejackets,
etc, plus the boat and all passengers are covered with the necessary
insurance.
To sum up the sea urchin is the ideal charter boat for small groups of
anglers wanting a friendly UN crowded feel, or wanting a boat completely
to them selves
